Bluestone is a cultural and commercial name for a different number of stone, including basalt, limestone, sandstone and the most common one we see used on a project, slate. Slate is a beautiful stone to use for landscaping and around pool areas due to it not being very porous, but just because it is not very porous doesn't mean water still can't find it's way in. Slate still grows organic and can sometimes contain iron ore that bleeds out and creates a very bright orange staining. Another thing that happens is manganese staining cause by water pushing minerals to the surface. We've worked hard to figure out how slate works and have found solutions through many trails and past knowledge to make the stone look great without heavy use of pressure and harsh chemicals. It's still a stone and is still subject to pressure washers creating etches in the stone and through testing have found that certain cleaners that worked on numerous other types of stone caused some new issues to arise. Thanks to our in shop testing, we avoided any new problems with our friend, blue slate.
