Slate and Clay Roofs

Clay, been around a while

Clay has been used for millennia, some of the oldest pottery have been found as far back as 14,000 BCE. It's naturally found in nature and is shaped and fired to harden and keep the shape it's been molded into. Because of its natural properties, it is susceptible to natural organic growth too. Usually found on north facing roofs, trees, wind and water help organic grow on clay and can be very noticeable due to the contrast between the clays red-orange hues and the organics green and brown hues.

Slate, Don't wait

Slate roofs look great, bluestone goes well with the skies color schemes but it's also not safe from organic growth. Due to the color of the stone and it being the higher points of a project, it can sometimes take a while to notice growth starting, sometimes only noticed once it's heavy and dark and overcomes the blue hues. Growth happens in the same way as clay roofs, north facing, water, wind and trees being factors to the growth. The great this is, they can both be cleaned using the same basic processes we've come up with.

Can it be cleaned?

Yes. It most definitely can, using the same process we use on pavers and walls, we can accomplish the same goal. Mitigating organic growth with the right cleaner and using the correct tool. The correct tool being our telescoping pole hiflo compatible attachment that lets us use an angled cleaning spray. By staying above the roof tiles, we can avoid forcing water underneath which can cause more issues and just pushes the organic under the tile where it can find a different foothold to cont its growth. It helps clean consistently and run any organic soiling and cleaners down off the roof.
